3. Source Attribution: When our research agent finds relevant case law or our knowledge agent surfaces firm precedent, every claim is linked to its source. Attorneys can verify the underlying authority, not just trust the summary.
4. Audit Trail: Every agent interaction is logged with full traceability — who ran it, what inputs were provided, what output was generated, and what action was taken. This supports both quality control and regulatory compliance.
Why Full Automation Would Be Irresponsible
Some legal AI vendors promise "autonomous" legal workflows — AI that files documents, sends communications, or makes conflict determinations without human intervention. This approach is fundamentally incompatible with the practice of law for three reasons:
Professional Responsibility: Under Rule 5.3 of the Model Rules, attorneys must supervise non-lawyer assistance. AI is the ultimate non-lawyer assistant. Delegation without supervision isn't efficiency — it's an ethics violation waiting to happen.
